A crowdsourced zoning map for the nation

Zoning laws dictate much of what can be built in communities across the United States. But the details of the laws are often locked in lengthy and complicated PDF documents. The National Zoning Atlas crowdsources these incredibly influential laws by depicting their key attributes in an online, user-friendly map.

Take Me to Your River: A Cultural Atlas of the LA River is a three-year project initiated by the Los Angeles-based arts organization Clockshop with a mapping component done in collaboration with Greeninfo Network.

An all-new All About Redistricting

Every 10 years, the geographic boundaries that define our democracy are redrawn. It’s an obscure but very important process. And it can be done fairly — or not. Legal Scholar Justin Levitt is a nationally known expert on redistricting, and we helped create the online home of his All About Redistricting project.

An inventory of parks for Los Angeles County

With the passing of the 2016 Measure A (Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Benches Measure) came a greater need to organize and inventory the various parks across in LA County. Greeninfo partnered with Los Angeles Regional Park and Open Space District to create a portal where various agencies can update their data in a streamlined environment in accordance with this new demand.

Analyzing tree canopy in schoolyards

Green Schoolyards America (GSA) seeks to transform asphalt-covered school grounds into park-like green spaces that improve children’s well-being, learning, and play while contributing to their communities' ecological health and climate resilience. GreenInfo Network began working with GSA back in 2022 to support their goals in this work by mapping tree canopy coverage in child-accessible areas in California school grounds.

Conservation Lands Network 2.0

Conservation Lands Network 2.0 is a long-term regional strategy and framework to set goals, provide tools, and catalyzes on-the-ground land conservation in the Bay Area. Working closely with TOGETHER Bay Area (formerly the Bay Area Open Space Council), Greeninfo Network worked to completely update and relaunch the Conservation Lands Network and associated web tools. This foundational dataset has been a key guide for regional conservation funding and habitat protection for more than a decade. The update included a complete rerunning of the underlying analysis from 1.0, alongside an extensive reimagining of the online Explorer tool and the Conservation Portfolio report.

Discover Ironwood Forest National Monument

Friends of Ironwood Forest is a local non-profit organization that works for the permanent protection of the biological, geological, archaeological, and historical resources and values for which the Ironwood Forest National Monument was established. GreenInfo Network was excited to partner with Friends of Ironwood Forest to help increase public awareness about Ironwood Forest via updating the Ironwood Forest National Monument map and overall informational brochure.

Equitable park access research project

The Equitable Outdoor Access Research Project uses public data to map people and public parks and open spaces across six states (Arizona, California, Georgia, Montana, New Mexico and Washington). Across those states, we found that nearly 23 million people don’t have a neighborhood park within a 10-minute walk from their homes.

TNC Florida parterned with Greeninfo to create an interactive library that advocates for and showcases the positive impacts of Green Stormwater Infrastructures with concrete examples that make the case for more sustainable stormwater management Resulting from this work is a public website that includes a photo search and project search, along with key facts about each project with the purpose of educating and promoting Green Stormwater Infrastructures.

Helping transportation planners adapt to sea level rise

San Francisco Bay Area roads are at risk from sea level rise. In Marin County, major highways often run on low-lying lands that were once marshes. Marin County’s Public Works Department wanted to provide data about sea level rise to planners and engineers who work on road projects. GreenInfo Network and Tom Robinson Consulting built Marin County’s Resilient Roads application for that purpose.
