Joseph has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, and for many years his primary interests centered around conservation and coffee. Through college he worked as a barista trainer in specialty coffee shops in Washington, D.C. and Oregon. He became fascinated by geography while studying the global coffee supply chain and hiking the myriad trails of the Pacific Northwest. He eventually returned to school to study GIS and worked on a range of projects while interning with the Nature Conservancy’s GIS team in Oregon. His favorite part of GIS work is the balance of creativity and technicality that projects frequently necessitate. He is passionate about serving a wide range of organizations to provide high-quality data and appealing cartographic products for informed decision-making. In his free time he enjoys volunteering with local conservation and trail maintenance groups, hiking and running with his dog, and plant-based cooking.
